‘We have identified players’: Zwane on Chiefs signing spree

When asked about the signings on Thursday during the Chiefs media day, Zwane gave a 'politically correct' answer.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane could not confirm nor deny that the club has added a couple of players to their roster ahead of next season.

Amakhosi have already signed SuperSport United defender Thatayaone Dithlokwe on a pre-contract. He will join Chiefs in July.

They are also reported to be in the final stages of signing Mduduzi Mdantsane from Cape Town City. He will also join in July.

TS Galaxy captain and defender Given Msimango has also reportedly signed a deal with Chiefs for next season.

The Soweto side are believed to be still chasing Stellenbosch duo of Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Junior Mendieta.

When asked about the signings on Thursday during the Chiefs media day, Zwane gave a ‘politically correct’ answer.

“As a club, there are players that were identified that we want to bring on board,” he said without mentioning any names.

“The cub is still dealing with that just to make sure we get all the players that have been identified by the technical team,” Zwane added.

Chiefs tap into young talent

Zwane has also promoted a few youngsters from Chiefs’ development sides and he says they will also be given a chance to prove themselves.

“There are players coming from the development… Those who have been doing well in the first team and have been part of the first team, the opportunity is there for them.

“It’s all up to them. They will be given the opportunity. If they grab it with both hands, it’s good for the club.

“We’re more than willing to do that. It’s part of our job. And yeah, what is key is to get the rhythm and find the right balance,” added the Chiefs mentor.

Zwane is in his first season as coach at the Naturena side and is still in the rebuilding process.

He signed a few players this season who have made an impact but is still looking to beef up to be able to have a competent side.

Zwane has the pressure to end the team’s seven-year trophy drought. Chiefs meet Stellenbosch at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

They will be hoping to make it three wins in a row in the DStv Premiership, and five in all competitions.
