Pitso: It’s squeaky bum time

Pitso Mosimane admitted it is “squeaky bum time” in the Absa Premiership title race after Mamelodi Sundowns beat SuperSport United 1-0 in the Tshwane derby on Wednesday evening.

There are currently just two points separating the top four in the table, as the season reaches an enthralling climax.

“It is closely contested, you can never tell where it will go,” Mosimane said in his post match television interview.

Sundowns won through a late header from captain Hlompho Kekana, after an excellent free kick from substitute Teko Modise. The match proved far more difficult for Sundowns than last week’s derby, where they hammered SuperSport 5-0.

“They were well organised, they had three in midfield and we couldn’t get the angles that we got last time,” added Mosimane.

“It was a high level of football, it was like the Champions League.”

The victory was Sundowns’ third in a row in the league, putting them firmly back among the contenders after five games without a win.

“We squandered our games in hand, that is a fact,” said Mosimane.

“Maybe Sundowns like this, we want it when it is on edge … I am happy to take 1-0s …. I am happy for the boys and the supporters, they have been patient, for five games in a row we didn’t win but we kept going.”
