Solinas close to Pirates move

Former Free State Stars coach, Giovanni Solinas is close to taking reigns at Orlando Pirates, Phakaaathi has learnt.

A source has revealed that Pirates have been rearranging their technical team in anticipation of the lovable Italian’s arrival.

“Look, Pirates want Solinas, no one else. Of course they will deny it because they don’t want to be accused of having poached him while he was contracted to Free State Stars,” said the source.

The source alleged that Pirates parted ways with Multichoice Diski Challenge coach, Zipho Dlangalala to make space for Benson Mhlongo in the team.

“Mhlongo was shipped to the MDC team so that Bradley (Carnell) will be the sole assistant to Solinas when he finally joins the team. Carnell made the recommendation to (Irvin) Khoza that Solinas could be the solution to Pirates’ lack of success on the field as he allows players the freedom to express themselves and while he likes disciplined players, he is not too restrictive like (Muhsin) Ertugral,” added the source.

Phakaaathi also understands that although Solinas parted ways with Stars this week, he has not made any arrangements to leave the country and could be announced as the Pirates mentor this weekend or early next week.
