Poor state of Welgedacht

I am a concerned citizen who lives in Ninth Avenue in Welgedacht. My concern is the fact that there is no tar road and when the rainy season comes, water just stands in my driveway making it difficult to drive through.

What is worse is that this area is meant to be a suburb, but the service received is far worse than the one received by the squatter camps. The streetlights have not been working for a year now.

The worst is that the rent and electricity bill payments are demanded monthly, if you skip payments you get final warnings which adds R200 on top of what you owe.

This is not fair, though, because your Payneville and KwaThema residents seldom pay for rent yet they have tar roads and pavements.

I know now with elections coming up they will get more service delivery and more roads. I feel as though I am maintaining them through doing my honest part of paying for services and yet am not getting anything back.

This demotivates me as a citizen and it makes me have resentment.

The Welgedacht area is an area that is still considered Small Holdings.

On Small Holdings the acceptable level of service that the Ekurhuleni metro must provide and maintain is gravel roads with open storm water drainage systems. There are no plans or budget to construct any tar roads within the Small Holdings Area of Welgedacht (including the one complained about).

The gravel roads in the area will be maintained as part of routine maintenance together with the other gravel and open storm water drains and trenches in the area. Special attention will be paid to the poor drainage section mentioned in the complaint.
