The SPCA has called on the public to refrain from trying to spay and neuter your own animals, it’s not only barbaric it’s also against the law.
This comes after Cadet Inspector Eloise Carelsen from the SPCA Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark was called out to a property where one of the unneutered male dogs was bleeding from his testicles.
Upon closer inspection Eloise saw that somebody had put an elastic band around the dog’s testicles and the rubber had started cutting into the flesh.
According to the SPCA the owner of the dog was not responsible for the cruelty. The dog went missing for a few days and returned home with an elastic band and wound around his testicles. The owner immediately contacted the SPCA for help.
The dog was taken to Klipriver vet and because of the severity of his wounds he was neutered and given pain meds as well as an antibiotic.
“He is recuperating at the SPCA and will be returned to his owner as soon as his cone is off.
“It seems Batsy the dog had stated visiting the ladies in his neighbourhood and one of the neighbours thought it would be wise to stop his meandering by putting an elastic around his testicles.”
According to 50 Shades of Spay a organization dedicated to the sterilization of animals, this is a very slow and agonizing way to castrate any animal.
“The constant pain in his abdominal area must have been relentless and finally Batsy couldn’t any more so he started eating himself, hoping to eradicate the pain.”
“How long he had endured this torture is unclear but we are so thankful for the efforts of the SPCA and the dedicated staff that work 24/7 regardless of the fact that it was Mother’s Day. I am sure Eloise would have loved to spend the day with her family as she is a human mom as well as an animal warrior. Instead she sacrificed her time for a little dog named Batsy…”
