ABRAHAMSRUST BEING REVITALISED

The Abrahamsrust resort on the banks of the Vaal River in Sasolburg, was temporarily closed to the public on 10 October 2019. Sasol, the land owner, took this measure subsequent to the expiry of the 20 year lease to the Metsimaholo Local Municipality to ensure improvement on safety, health and functionality related issues at Abrahamsrust. Since the closure, Sasol has made several upgrades to the facilities, in particular to the entrance, chalets, park homes, lapa, swimming pools, roads as well as the water and sewer reticulation system. “These upgrades are being done because we care about the safety and well-being of our employees and our community, but also to ensure that continuous public access to the Vaal River at Abrahamsrust is maintained. We aim to make every visit to the resort optimally enjoyable,” said Rightwell Laxa, Senior Vice President, Sasol’s Sasolburg and Ekandustria Operations. As upgrade work is still in progress, the exact date for the reopening  of the new improved Abrahamsrust will be shared in due course.

Structural repairs, including roofs, gutters, tiles and dysfunctional plumbing were done to get the chalets at Abrahamsrust back to full functionality
The upgraded interior of the well-equipped bachelor, two and three bedroom chalets have newly furnished kitchens, bathrooms, sitting areas and bedrooms
Tiles were replaced in the main pool, the splash pool rescreeded and paving around the pools repaired. Functionality of the water circulation pumps were returned.
The interior of the park homes were completely renovated, air conditioners installed and access roads repaired. Grass is cut and trees are pruned.
The access to the waterfront via the jetty was upgraded as this is the only public access point to the Vaal River in the area.
The lapa was upgraded to the extent that conferences can once again be held at Abrahamsrust.
