Get ready for the popular eight-week Vaal River Meander Wine Route from June 4 to July 24! This annual treat is a very well-priced wine and foodie delight to beat the winter blues. Come meander through a variety of participating venues on or around the banks of the Vaal River. At a cost of only R50 per person, eight different wine cultivars can be enjoyed at each of the venues.

The participating venues showcase different estates, so you can go from venue to venue and enjoy tasting different wine farms’ vintages. The eight venues are all positioned either on or nearby the Vaal River.The Vaal River Meander Wine Route is a relaxed way to enjoy the best of South Africa’s wine, and a feel-good way to spend a lazy winter Saturday and Sunday, from midday to 18:00 every weekend.

This most popular Wine Route in Gauteng discerns itself from all others in South Africa in that it has a record number of ways in which you can enjoy this winter wine treat, such as in a restaurant, by houseboat, luxury cruiser, water-taxi, tour-bus, in your own car or by helicopter! The different participating venues are diverse and offer contrasting experiences – as do their wines – with the single common thread of each being the presentation of great South African varieties. You might select a venue where you can elegantly enjoy sipping wine at a classy hotel on the river; or in front of a roaring fireplace in a cosy pub; or with a glass at your side while trying your hand at Lady Luck at the Casino. What about enjoying sipping wine while appreciating the view from a boathouse overlooking the river, or a picnic wine tasting treat, or aboard your very own houseboat on which you can enjoy travelling to the various venues. You could even opt for a private luncheon and wine tasting for your group of friends aboard a luxury cruiser restaurant. Vaal River Meander Wine Route 2022 will be concluded with the grand finale – the Wine Expo at Stonehaven on Vaal – on Saturday, July 30. The R250 ticket will allow guests to enjoy wines from dozens of different wine estates at Stonehaven and includes a complimentary wine tasting glass and a cruise aboard a luxury cruiser, or a R50 food voucher.
