VANDERBIJLPARK. – The advancement of engineering skills is the key to unlocking the potential hidden within any South African industry. In addition to utilising the resources provided within a company, technical persons such as engineers, technicians and technologists are required to provide continuous professional development in their private capacities. This can be achieved through external mentorship, professional networking, professional registration, self-study and academia.

The South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) is a voluntary association which aims to provide these resources to all low, medium and high voltage technical practitioners. The SAIEE Vaal Centre is the local leg of the national SAIEE organisation and shares the same vision, mission and strategy. The focus is on the professional development of technical persons in the Vaal and surrounding areas.

The Vaal Centre has arranged for Mr.Andre Hoffmann, President of the SAIEE, to deliver the SAIEE 2015 President’s Inaugural Lecture at the Quest Conference Estate in Vanderbijlpark. This year’s theme is ‘Back to the Future – Let’s Pay It Forward.’ The event is sponsored by the SAIEE Vaal Centre and entrance is free. In addition, the Vaal Centre is arranging for the presence of an SAIEE senior official to provide a 5 minute talk on the new professional registration process with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). After the President’s Inaugural Lecture, a nomination for new Vaal Centre committee members will take place.

Persons attending the lecture need not be registered with the SAIEE. The lecture is open to interested parties and is not exclusively reserved for electrical engineers. Attendance is free and light refreshments will be provided. The event takes place at 18:30 for 19:00 at Quest Conference Estate, Curie Boulevard, Vanderbijlpark. More information is available from Michael Barnes on 083 736 9111 or saiee.vaalcentre@gmail.com.
Anyone interested is requested to RSVP by May 13.
