MEYERTON. – The Midvaal Local Muncipality has closed its head office down after an employee had tested positive for COVID-19.

Simon Ratlhagane, a spokesperson for the municipality, said in a statement: “This afternoon, Thursday June 04, the Midvaal Local Municipality head office confirmed that a suspected case of COVID-19 has tested positive.

“For that reason, the Head Office will be shutting down immediately for a period of 14 days as per the COVID-19 regulations.

“The Municipality has adopted a protocol which is part of the precautionary measures recommended by the national department of health which require members self-quarantine and work from home.”

According to Ratlhagane all employees of Head Office will be required to be tested for COVI D-19 within the 14 days of Quarantine. On return to work, proof needs to be provided on the results of these tests.

“The Outbreak Response Team has been dispatched to compile a list of all the possible individuals that came into close contact with the official.

“The municipality will continue to carry out active case findings through vigilant screening and testing.

“The municipality also pleads with the public to stay calm, vigilant and maintain safety protocol to minimize the spread of the virus: that is to wash hands with soap and water, observe coughing and sneezing etiquette, follow quarantine measures and adhere to the set terms of lock down regulations,” says Ratlhagane.

The municipality has made an appeal to members of the public to keep monitoring the following and report to a medical doctor, should they arise.
