SPCA: Like a scene from a horror movie

"It felt and looked like we walked into a scene from a horror movie when our Inspectors responded to an emergency call early yesterday morning in Eikendal," says a spokesperson of the Vereeniging/Vanderbijpark SPCA. Shortly after their arrival they had to euthanize 14 goasts - a further 21 goats had already died before their arrival.

The SPCA were informed that a large number of goats had allegedly been stolen and chased over a road. According to the information provided, the goats were run over while crossing the road –  the driver could not see the goats as it was still early morning and dark.
The SPCA team had to humanely euthanize 14 goats that were so badly injured and busy dying. Sadly 21 goats died before the team arrived. The 30 remaining goats were examined and returned to their owner, who has opened a case of theft with the police.
“This is a sad situation. It is emotionally draining for our Inspectors. However, we will always respond when an animal is in need. We care about all animals”.
