Glass recycling in aid of animals

VEREENIGING. - A whopping 98 ton of glass with a value of R42 266,80 has made it possible for local animal activist Yvette Wilde (the driving force behind 50 Shades of Spay) to make a huge difference in the community.

“I am thankful to everyone who supports this initiative. Together we can make a difference,” says Yvette.

River Square Shopping Centre in Three Rivers has since August 2019 been the depot for the collection of glass for recycling. The centre management agreed to allow the glass collection bin on their premises, as the proceeds would be funneled back to the community via the vet account of 50 Shades of Spay.

The bin is donated by Jaco from Kalambi Scrap Metals who collects the glass, has it weighed and pays 43 cents for each kilogram to the vet account of 50 Shades of Spay.
“This money is utilized for the sterilization of domestic animals in the community. Every month a sum of money is put towards the vet account,” explains Yvette.

This month 50 Shades of Spay is giving back to the community by offering a special rate for all male dogs and cats to be neutered. All of this from the recycling of unwanted glass donated by the community ,going towards the community.

“River Square Shopping Centre has had new signage done for the bin area. The new signs are so attractive and colourful and it is with a greatful heart that we thank our local shopping centre management for their commitment towards our cause,” says Yvette.

She would also like to take the opportunity to thank the “glass fairies”, Linda Venter and Claudia Jean Steenbergen who manage this project for 50 Shades of Spay. “Jaco from Kalambi Scap Metals, thank you for your commitment and continued support to the cause and last but not least, our shopping centre management team at River Square, a big thank you,” Yvette concluded.
