Vereeniging schools make pool part of the curriculum

VEREENIGING. – Pool 4 Change has for the past three years been a major role player in changing the rules of the game with regards to versatility when coming to sporting codes available to school learners.

With the pool sport being usually associated with places like pubs and taverns, Pool 4 Change aims to change this by making the sport part of the school curriculum.
The organisation which was founded in 2018 has up to date been able to make the pool Cue Sport available to over 100 schools.
Last week, Pool 4 Change donated two pool tables to Phoenix High School and Vereeniging Gymnasium High School, making them the first two shools to offer cue sport in Gauteng.
The handover was carried out by Pool 4 Change in conjunction with the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture and the South African Confederation of Cue Sport.
The event was attended by representatives from various organisations within the sporting fraternity.
Pool 4 Change Chairperson, Galiek Savill said, “We started Pool 4 Change in 2018. In the Western Cape we started with our schools and the the numbers got bigger.
“At the moment we have 100 schools. Thank you very much for assisting us.
“It starts here by your schools, other schools will learn how the cue sport goes. Savill said a special thanks to Andre du Toit who is the co-ordinator for Pool 4 Change in Sedibeng.
Pool 4 Change Public Relations Officer, Donavan Johnson said:
“In the next five years I want to see Cue Sport grow.
“We started out this project at school level.
“ It took us two years for people to open the doors for us.
“What we have now is a massive organisation supported by the Department of Education, Department of sports and various other organisations in the Cue Sports.
“We are building independent young people that can take this sport and this country forward. Cue Sports gives you discipline and helps with concentration in Math’s and physics. Our young learners for two years have excelled in their school work through what they have learned in the Cue Sport.
“It adds value to your life.”
Learners said they were excited to become part of something that was happening for the first time in their school.
“We are so excited to learn something new, we now have another indoor sport at our school and this will keep us very busy and away from any negative things.
“We are excited to have a sport that we are learning about for the first time.”
Phoenix High School Head Master, Andre Botha and Vereeniging Gymnasium High School Deputy Headmaster, Hannes Grobbelaar thanked the organisation for bringing a positive change into their schools.
