Tersia Venter remembers her beloved dog, whom she had to ‘put to sleep’ due to old age:

When we were looking at adopting a dog, you were not what I had in mind, but you raised such a voice that day at the SPCA that I could not have a proper conversation with the personnel. I turned around and there you were.

You climbed halfway up your kennel gate and when our eyes met, I knew we had to take you home. I have never met a happier, more grateful dog than you. You loved your new space and adored your humans. You had such a lovely, calm personality.

You did not bark much, but when you did, you usually did from your space in the lounge. You usually had no idea what you were barking at, but the other dogs barked, so you joined in.

Your favourite space was anywhere on the floor of a room where your humans were – and preferably in their way. I thought you’d live forever, but nobody does. I could see you getting older. Struggling with getting up, walking with difficulty and not being able to chew your beloved snacks anymore.

I realised the decision I had to make. It wasn’t easy. We went today (23-02-2021). I was with you all the way. I told you Rex and Magrieta would be waiting for you at the bridge and that you’ll not be alone. I hope you see Braampie there as well.
