Gama says when she saw what was happening, she ran outside and tried to get the dog off Koena but the dog would not let go. “The dog was very aggressive.
“It was biting his foot and did not want to let go. It only ran away when one of my kids splashed it with water.”

According to Gama, this is not the first time the dog has attacked a child in the area, her 13-year-old was also apparently previously attacked by the same dog.
On Sunday, the owner was called, and he assisted with taking the two kids to Levai Mbatha Clinic where they were treated for their injuries.
“We spoke to the owner the first time and he said he would give the dog up but he hasn’t. On Sunday when we spoke to him after the dog attacked again for the second time, he said he would get rid of the dog but he is still keeping it.” Parents fear that the next time the dog attacks, a child might die.

Koena’s Mother, Maria Makoe (*not her real name) (50) says she is very disturbed by what happened to her son. “They called me to Gama’s house where my son was lying in a pool of blood.
“Teboho can’t sleep because he is in pain and as his mother, I can’t do anything for him.” The parents of the children said that they had not called the police when the incident happened. “We might be forced to open a case if the dog is not taken away.”
(*Names have been changed to protect the children’s identity. By law they can not be named as they are minors.)
