“Vanderbijl burst pipeline belongs to ELM, not Rand Water”

ELM senior officials had made a call to Rand Water requesting assistance with the repair of the pipeline since the Municipality did not possess the expertise to deal with it.

Rand water would like to express its concern about the media reports wherein it was reported that the burst pipe belongs to Rand Water. The aforesaid burst occurred on Thursday morning (3 June 2021) in Vanderbijlpark.

Rand Water would like to set the record straight and confirm that the aforementioned pipeline, which supplies bulk water to the Vanderbijlpark area and environs, belongs to the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).

ELM senior officials had made a call to Rand Water requesting assistance with the repair of the pipeline since the Municipality did not possess the expertise to deal with it.

In response, Rand Water dispatched a technical team to the site to assess the extent of the damage. It is against this background that Rand Water was seen in the vicinity.

Rand Water’s Justice Mohale said: “As a state-owned company, Rand Water is always available to assist all its customers where called upon. It is therefore regrettable that such acts can be taken out of context in a manner that shows Rand Water in a negative light.”
