VANDERBIJLPARK. – Terrence Magogodela acting CEO of Athletics South Africa (ASA) sent out a circular on September 1 to inform the provinces of the changes.
The circular read as follows: In light of the present KwaZulu-Natal COVID-19 daily infection rate and recommendations from the ASA Medical & Scientific Committee, members should kindly take note of the following amendments to the age categories that will be allowed to partake in the 2021 ASA Cross Country Championships will be taking place at Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, 18 September 2021. As reference from the ASA Medical & Scientific Committee, the age categories that are at risk to contact COVID-19 are the younger age groups and the over 50’s. ASA has therefore come to a decision to continue the ASA Cross Country Championships with the age categories of 17 years to under 50 year olds.
The updated Manual based on the decision will be forwarded to all members in due course. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience but hope you understand that we have the interest of our athlete’s health & safety at heart. Terrence Magogodela acting CEO
