Search on for young boy who fell into open manhole

An operation to find a six- year-old boy who fell into a manhole in Orange Farm on Sunday has expanded to Evaton, in the Emfuleni Local Municipality.

EVATON. – It is reported that Khomanani Mawa was playing with other kids near his home when the incident happened.

A search was launched by the City of Johannesburg on Sunday soon after the incident but the boy was not found.

The operation is now on it’s third day with ELM having joined in the search.

Family Spokesperson Eric Chauke said that as a family they were highly disturbed and hurt by the incident.

Chauke said that Johannesburg Water had searched manholes in Orange Farm and the child was not found.

“The search has expanded to Evaton Central and they re now searching in blocked manholes.”

“We just want to find our boy’s body so that we can find closure. That’s all we want as a family”

Chauke said the parents of the boy were not coping.
