Land invasion prevented in Emfuleni

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says a swift response from the Ward Councillor in Ward 4 of the Emfuleni Local Municipality, Cllr Edward von Bodenstein today saw a land invasion being stopped on the same day that it started.

VEREENIGING. – According to the DA’s Regional Chairperson for the Vaal, Dennis Ryder a group of about 50 people began marking out stands and erecting structures on a piece of land in Vanderbijlpark’s SE4 area next to Andries Potgieter Boulevard.

“Sharp-eyed residents from the area called their Councillor who immediately alerted the By-Law Unit from Emfuleni Local Municipality,” says Ryder.

Councillor von Bodenstein rushed to the area to see for himself and engaged with the land invaders.

The By-Law Enforcement units, together with private security were on scene soon after and managed to disperse the invaders with a stern warning.

Some building materials were confiscated.

Speaking on the response Councillor von Bodenstein attributed the swift response of the unit to his good working relationship with the By-Law Unit and his track record with them.

“I don’t play politics when it comes to By-Laws,” said von Bodenstein.

“Laws are there to protect residents, businesses and the municipality.

The Unit knows that when I call them it is something serious.”

Ryder says the land invasion comes in the wake of calls for land to be given to people at the EFF Manifesto launch.
