WATCH: Numsa’s steel industry strike erupts in Vereeniging

Numsa began its national strike on Tuesday, October 5. The union demands an 8% wage increase for workers.

VEREENIGING.- Workers affiliated to the National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa (Numsa) in the steel and engineering sector joined the nationwide strike for higher wages on Wednesday  in Vereeniging.

Groups of people wearing Numsa’s regalia are currently gathering at CTM on Johannesburg road. 

Numsa began its national strike on Tuesday, October 5. The union demands an 8% wage increase for workers.

Workers say they haven’t received an increase in three years. They are struggling to put food on the table. 

It has been alleged that the angry protesters were throwing stones at vehicles. 

SAPS are on the scene.
