Who said rugby was only for the young at heart?

In light of this, the Vaal Mustangs invites the general public to join them on the 20th of September 2021 at the DP de Villiers Stadium in Sasolburg for a Golden Oldie Rugby Festival Day.

The Golden Oldies Rugby scene hit the shores of South Africa, way back, during 1983 and was the brainchild of the late Fred Dieterle.

The first Golden Oldies festival was hosted by Villagers Rugby Club in Cape Town during 1983 with 16 teams and was a resounding success. Shortly thereafter, The South African National Golden Oldies Rugby Association (SANGORA) was formed and the world of Veteran Rugby in the country was born.

Regular festivals are held in the various provinces where these Gentlemen exchange rugby skills on the field and social skills off the field. Golden Oldies Rugby is available for the over 35+ who wish to play and enjoy the Game they have loved for years and in many cases, years and years!!

Generally, the normal Laws or Rules of the Game apply, with minor alterations… unlimited substitutions, shorter playing times, over-vigorous play is discouraged and at all times, the emphasis is on – “Fun, Friendship, Fraternity. If you are keen, you are eligible to play.

The Vaal Mustangs were formed in 2016 by two passionate Rugby Players Morne du Toit and Glen Victor. After forming a full Oldie Team, the Mustangs were entered into the annual Golden Oldie Rugby Festival and reside in the Valke League. Growing from strength to strength since 2016 and currently, under the leadership of Morne and Barend Swanepoel the Vaal Mustangs have been playing with courage, proud hearts, and representing the Vaal Triangle.

Anyone over the age of 35 who is interested and enjoys the sport of Rugby is welcome to join the Vaal Mustangs. Any sponsors are welcome to join hands and partner with this great event and also to support the Vaal Mustangs as they are an independent club and they can contact Morne du Toit on 083 545 0228
