ANC Gauteng convert REC’s into RTT’s
SEDIBENG.- With effect from last Wednesday, all the African National Congress (ANC) Regional Executive Committees (REC’s) in the Gauteng Province have been converted into Regional Task Teams (RTT’s).
The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) said that it has decided to convert all RECs into RTTs with effect from 09 March 2022.
The implication of this decision means that Sedibeng, Greater Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and West Rand are now under the Regional Task Teams.
The PEC held its two special virtual meetings on Friday 4 March and on Tuesday, 8 March.
The PEC said that the Special PEC meeting on Friday, 4 March 2022 met to assess the progress on the implementation of the programme of rebuilding and renewal of the ANC structures in Gauteng, as adopted by the PEC Lekgotla in February 2022.
“This re-building and renewal programme includes the preparations for the Biennial Branch General Meetings, Regional Conferences (April 2022), the 14th Provincial Conference (3 – 5 June 2022) and the 55th National Conference. The Special PEC meeting deliberated extensively and approved a discussion document (The Base Document) which analyses developments since the 2018 Provincial Conference and further proposes a set of new organisational, policy and governance interventions that will enhance the rebuilding and renewing of the ANC, the Alliance and progressive movement in Gauteng.”
The PEC further said that the Base Document seeks to unite the ANC and direct all the energies of the membership and activists of the ANC-led democratic forces to serve the people with the highest ethical standards, integrity, and competence. It added that all the branches and regions will discuss the Base Document and propose further resolutions that will be considered by the Provincial Conference, National Policy Conference and 55th National Conference.
“The follow-up PEC meeting took place on Tuesday 8 March 2022 to receive a report on the status of the membership of all branches and regions and to assess the readiness of regions to convene their Regional Conferences in April. The membership report signed off by the ANC SGO at Luthuli House confirms that 420 Branches have at least 100 members in good standing, and they qualify to convene Biennial Branch General Meetings. Four out of five regions are also ready to proceed to their Regional Conferences once the branches have convened successful meetings.”
All Regional Conferences in Gauteng were held in June 2018 and the mandate of the Regional Executive Committees expired in June 2021. Conferences could not be held between June and November due to the Local Government Elections.
“Special PEC meeting also took a decision that all REC members will form part of these RTT’s in their respective regions with the Regional Convener being the former Regional Chairperson and Regional Coordinator being the former Regional Secretary. The RTTs will function in the same way that the RECs were functioning, with full constitutional powers, under the guidance of the PEC,” a statement issued by ANC Gauteng Provincial Secretary, Jacob Khawe said.
