LOCAL: House robbery and rape on the increase

Police Spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said that this started in the Easter weekend.

BOIPATONG. – The Boipatong Police have warned the community members about the recent increase in rapes and house breaking.

Police Spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said that this started in the Easter weekend.

“There are three armed suspects who are terrorising the community as they break into their houses and take appliances. When they get in the houses they tie the people with ropes and rape the females in most incidents. Police urge the community to be vigilant especially in the early hours of the morning.

Maxambela said that in a recent incident a 44-year-old women left her house, closing and locking doors and windows to take her children to school. When she came back at around 08:15 she unlocked her kitchen door and entered her house. That’s when she realised that there were three men inside the house who who pointed her with a firearm.

“She was told to co-operate and go into her bedroom where they tied her hands and feet with plastic ropes and put a cloth in her mouth and raped her. The suspects then fled the scene. The victim managed to scream and neighbours came to her help and called police. While the police were on the scene, a complaint of the same nature was reported sector 2 at Sobuza street.  Where a 32-year-old women was sleeping at about 09:00 when she was confronted by an intruder in her house who undressed and raped her. She was robbed of her cell phone R80000 in cash.”

Maxambela said that the Boipatong Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Molotsi is corcerned about the incidents as we are heading towards  and that he urges the community to put extra security in their houses and lock all door at all times.

No arrest have been made and police are investigating cases house robbery and rape.
