Five arrested after shootout with police

The suspects were in posession of suspected stolen copper cables.

SEDIBENG.- The members of the Sedibeng K9 Unit recently arrested five suspects folllowing a shootout.

It is said that the members of K9 unit were doing their daily patrolls at about 10:40 when they noticed a taxi with five male occupants driving erratically in the Old JHB road and when the members turned around the taxi speed off. Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said that the members gave chase and managed to stop the taxi.

“When the members searched the vehicle they found rolls of copper cable. Police arrested five men betweeen the ages of 22 to 38. Transnet identified the cables as theirs and estimated them to be R400 000-00. The suspects were detained and charged with possession of suspected stolen property and damage to infrastructure.”
