Pump Station # 8 finally being repaired, contractors need assistance
Contractors have finally started repairs on Pump Station #8 in Vereeniging, next to Golf Road.
VEREENIGING. – For several months raw sewage has been spilling directly into the Vaal River as a result of the pump station being out of order.
The pump station services the majority of the CBD’s waste water and also some from Three Rivers.
According to Dennis Ryder, a member of parliament and the Democratic Alliance’s regional chairman in the Vaal Region work has finally commenced.
This comes after a meeting Ryder had with the Director General of the Department of Water Affairs and Sanitation.
“The guys are busy, the cranes are out, new pumps have gone in and there is a little bit of work going on here,” Ryder said in a video shared on social media.
“Very pleased to see a little bit of progress happening. This is of course going to stop water from flowing directly into the Vaal River, something we are very desperate about,” Ryder said.
According to Ryder the contractors are struggling with the piping system and the reticulation as a results of the blueprints having been lost.
He appealed to members of the public who knows the reticulation system very well to get in touch.
Anyone who can assist is requested to contact Ryder on 076 642 8344.
