Sasol to conduct Community Emergency Exercise

SASOLBURG. - Sasol will conduct a legally required emergency exercise from 11:00 – 13:00 on Wednesday 18 October 2023.

The exercise forms part of regular exercises during which local emergency services join forces to test their readiness to respond to incidents that have the potential to impact Sasol as well as the community.

On the day, emergency services from Sasol and Metsimaholo Local Municipality as well as the SAPS will participate.

The exercise will involve the Sasol One Plant, while Leeuwspruit Primary and Afrikaanse Hoërskool Sasolburg will test their emergency plans at the same time.

To allow learners to evacuate the school safely, roads around the schools will be closed for the duration of the exercise, Lemmer Street in particular.

The road closures will be managed by the Metsimaholo Traffic Department.

Sasol tests its community sirens at 09:00 and plant sirens at 10:00 and 13:00 every Thursday.

If a siren sound at any other time, community members should enter the nearest building, listen to updates on 90.6 FM Stereo, IFM (102.2 FM) or Metsimaholo FM (97.4) and stay inside the building until the “all clear” is sounded – a long, continuous siren.

If an emergency occur after hours, updates will be broadcast on IFM and Lesedi FM.

The safety of people, the community and the environment remains a priority to Sasol.
