SEDIBENG. – Mbuyiselo Gantsu, Jonas Radebe, and Setlhare Mahlasela have been reappointed by the Executive Mayor of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), Sipho Radebe as the Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs) in the ELM.
Announcing their reappointment Radebe said that as part of creating political stability in the ELM to improve service delivery provision he has resolved to reappoint the councillors as MMCs with effect from Wednesday, November 1.
“Our Government of Local Unity (GLU) which included, the New Horizon Movement, Vaal Party, Pan Africanist Congress, and Community Solidarity has not been without challenges, however, since the inaugural of the 5th Administration we have been steering the ELM ship together based on prioritizing service delivery and placing the residents of municipality first,” Radebe said.

Sedibeng Ster reported earlier this year that political parties inclusive of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC), New Horizon Movement (NHM), Vaal Lekgotla, Democratic Alliance (DA), and Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus), represented in the ELM had apparently formed a voting block that had vowed that they will vote for the removal of Radebe in a vote of ‘No confidence’, however, their plan was thwarted.
The MMCs resigned citing their resignations as informed by “political reasons”.
In welcoming the appointments Radebe said, “I also wish to extend my gratitude to all MMC who have been acting in this (their) portfolio(s) during their absence. I hope that we will continue serving the community of Emfuleni with diligence and excellence.”
The following reappointments were made:
- Mbuyiselo Kantso – Agriculture, LED Planning, and Tourism.
- Jonas Radebe – Environmental Management and Planning.
- Setlhare Mahlasela – Sports, Recreation, Arts, Culture and Information Services.
