Tragic accident on R59 near Vanderbijlpark

The festive season started on a very sad note as the first tragic accident was recorded in the early hours of December 1, claiming the life of a man on the R59 near Barrage Road in Vanderbijlpark.

The accident occurred approximately at 00:30 at a very dark area where the road slightly bends.

The first people who arrived at the scene said they almost drove into the vehicle that was lying on its roof at the side of the road.

Parts of the wreckage were scattered over both lanes.

Several other motorists also stopped to try and lend a hand, but it was clear that the driver of the overturned vehicle was deceased.

The local authorities could not be reached on the emergency number, but eventually, the WhatsApp group admin of Vaal/Gauteng Verkeer was contacted and took charge of the situation.

The identity of the man is not yet known. He was alone in the car. Vaalweekblad’s condolences to his loved ones.

Safety at night

When driving at night your safety should be of utmost concern.

When the sun goes down you are also sharing the road with fatigued and potentially intoxicated drivers, making it even more essential to take precautions.
