Breakdown in household waste collection services

The root cause is an unserviced refuse truck.

The Democratic Alliance says Sebokeng and neighbouring areas has experienced a complete breakdown in household waste collection services over the past three months.

The DA’s Political Head in the Emfuleni Consituency and Shadow MMC for Public Works, Cllr Dady Mollo, says this is an unfortunate development that underscores the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s stark failure in delivering a basic and essential service.

Mollo says, “The absence of routine waste collection not only tarnishes the cleanliness of our communities but also sparks genuine concerns about public health and the far-reaching environmental impact.

“This failure in service delivery lays bare the hypocrisy of the ANC in government, revealing a disconcerting disregard for the dignity of South Africans.”

Mollo says that latest information indicates that the root cause of this dire situation is a persistently malfunctioning and unserviced refuse truck.

“A staggering 40 Sebokeng depot staff members find themselves unable to fulfill their daily duties due to the unavailability of waste trucks.

“It is utterly unacceptable that residents must endure prolonged hardship due to the ANC’s inability to address this fundamental issue. This situation underscores the party’s neglect of the well-being and dignity of the South African people,” concludes Mollo.
