Police embark on awareness campaign

There seems to have been an increase in property related crimes in the sector.

MEYERTON. – In an effort to root out property related crimes and bring about safety and security of all the residents within the Meyerton policing area, the Meyerton SAPS team led by Captain Mthimkulu together with stakeholder such as the Meyerton CPF patrollers, the Youth Crime Prevention Desk, women and men as safety promoters as well as the Department of Community Safety Crime Prevention and traffic wardens visited the area of Kookrus in Sector 3 for a door-to-door awareness campaign.

According to a statement issued on behalf of Meyerton’s acting station commander, lt. col. Johan de Winnaar, the awareness campaign forms part of the contingency plan that was established after the realisation of the slight raise in property related crimes in the sector.

Prior to this initiative, police managed to arrest three suspects for armed house robbery in the same area.

The purpose of the awareness campaign was to sensitise members of the community about housebreaking and robberies at residential premises and also to offer tips to avoid being victims of this type of crime.

Police visibility was also intensified, and community members were happy to see the team in the area. Approximately 250 crime tips pamphlets were distributed.
