6 safety tips to ensure peace of mind when you’re on holiday
Top tips to make sure your house is safe and secure before departing for your Christmas holidays
The festive season is upon us and many of us will be excitedly planning holidays. But first ensure yourself, your family and your insured possessions are safe while you’re away.
Here are some tips to ensure peace of mind during your holiday:
1. Let your security company know you are going away, and ask them to carry out a check to make sure the alarm and all motion sensors are working. Also leave an emergency contact number with them.
2. Make sure your CCTV cameras are working and are positioned to give a clear view of what is happening both inside and outside your property.3. Check that your electric fence is in good working order and cut back any plants or trees that may interfere with it.
4. Double check that all doors are locked and all windows are shut properly before you set off.
5. Unplug all unnecessary appliances, such as the TV, coffee maker and kettle, and switch off the geyser. Not only is this protection from potentially damaging power surges, but is also an environmentally-friendly and cost-saving practice.
6. Do not store any jewellery or valuables in your home while you’re away. Rather put them in a safe deposit box. If you have no choice, make sure to lock these away safely and out of sight.
