VANDERIBJLPARK – At the end of 2024 Curro High School reached out to the Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark asking them if they could help to provide their grade 12 learners with community service opportunities.
The Rotarians agreed and before Christmas, the young volunteers helped with gift wrapping and selling used books.
On 6 and 7 January some of the more adventurous grade 12’s met at the Rita Benecke Agricultural Project to mix compost, and do all kinds of gardening chores in the hothouses.
The group agreed they loved the hands-on approach and felt they were making a difference in the community by attending the vegetables.
Past President Jackie van Waveren from the Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark said they appreciate all the help from the learners.
“I hope more high schools will come to us to let their learners do community service hours here on the farm. We also appreciate all donations to expand and sustain this agricultural project and are available to give a business a Section 18A receipt,” she said.
