Bite leaves feral carer in pain

VANDERBIJLPARK - Farzana Ismail of The Feral Carer NPC finds herself in a painful predicament after she was bitten while trying to save a cat on May 11.

“I am experiencing so much pain. I am one week into taking the Tetanus vaccine and have completed the prescribed anti-inflammatory medication without any improvement.”

Despite having been bitten multiple times in similar situations before, this time the severity of the pain was unbearable.

The incident occurred when Paris, a heavily pregnant campus kitty, escaped a failed attempt to trap her on Wednesday.

“On Sunday, I was left with no option but to carefully pick her up and place her in the cage. I was determined to ensure she entered the cage, which she did, but in the process, she pierced my left hand just above the index finger in the most severe way imaginable,” says Farzana.

Afterwards, Paris allowed Farzana to stroke her while she was inside the trapping cage.

“Paris has demonstrated the ability to transition well into a home environment. I am relieved to have secured her, as she has been having multiple litters in her mere 2.5 years of existence”.

But while this is a success story when it comes to Paris, the same cannot be said for Farzana.

Presently, her situation appears grim. The doctor recommended admission due to the high risk of permanent damage, and although Farzana realises the seriousness, she has no one to assist her to feed the cats should she be admitted.

“I have explained my situation, and the doctor is exploring alternative treatment options, including intravenous therapy, which may be administered on-site. I am so worried,” says Farzana.

She feeds and cares for approximately 300 feral cats daily, at 20 feral colonies.

Residents and cat lovers can support Farzana now while she needs it the most.

“Please support my cause by becoming a monthly donor. All funds received will be used for purchasing food for the ferals, veterinary visits for foster cats and kittens, much-needed supplements, purchasing of materials for feral shelters, and anything else that would make life a little easier for the precious kitties.”
