On July 19 a quiet Saturday morning was shattered twice by two separate accidents that occurred just hours apart at the intersection of Eric Louw Boulevard and J.B. le Roux Street, leaving residents shaken and calling for urgent road safety improvements.

The first collision occurred around 1:20 a.m. and involved a car and a minibus, reportedly a taxi. Although official statements are still pending, witnesses at the scene believe the minibus driver may have sustained serious or even fatal injuries. Emergency services cleared the scene by sunrise.

Shockingly, at around 7:15 a.m.—less than six hours later—a second crash occurred at the same intersection. This time, a large truck collided with a white car before veering off course and crashing into roadside infrastructure. The truck brought down a lamp post, a traffic light, and an advertising board, leaving a trail of destruction and debris scattered across the intersection well into the morning.

Angie Dunn, a resident whose home overlooks the intersection, shared her concern: “We heard both accidents happen. I don’t know if the motorists were skipping red lights or if the traffic signal was faulty, but it seems like more than just coincidence that both crashes happened in the same spot, with vehicles going in the same direction.”

Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of either accident, but growing concerns from the community have prompted calls for an urgent investigation into the functioning of the traffic signals and the general safety of the intersection.
