Budgies shine bright at National Show

The most common parakeet in captivity is the budgerigar or budgie. But that doesn't mean they are not extremely special. The Vaal Triangle Budgerigar Club was well represented.

This was highlighted during the 2025 National Budgerigar Show, held by the Vaal Triangle Budgerigar Club (VBK).

The national show was held at Pont du Val (located between Vanderbijlpark and Parys) on July 18, 19 and 20, and a total of 727 birds were entered.

After this year’s show, it is clear that The Budgerigar Society of South Africa, established in 1936, is like Johnny Walker: “Still Going Strong.”

VBK benched a total of 305 birds and received good points with outstanding achievements.

VBK would like to thank the four judges: Paul Visser & Anthony Slight from South Africa, Jonas Nilsson from Sweden, and Maarten Heylen from Belgium.

The club also extended a special thanks to Pont de Vaal for hosting the event.

The following local exhibitors did extremely well:
In the Champion section:

Roelf van Deventer from Van Deventer Stud and Roos received 6 Challenge Certificates (CC’s) in the following classes:
