Valies join fabulous Pride festivities

It was a colourful combination of feathers, costumes, and outrageous outfits.

Travelling distance was no bump in the road for Valies, as they joined the annual Pretoria Pride celebrations hosted at Centurion Rugby Club on October 4.

Following the colourful parade through the streets, hundreds gathered on the field in front of the main stage to celebrate love, diversity, and LGBTIQ+ visibility.

The crowd was treated to a line-up of talent, including singers (like the Vaal’s Greunen Parker), drag artists, and DJs. The Vaal’s very own DJ Babs was in control on stage, providing the sound and tunes for the day.

Joburg Pride takes place on October 25. The parade will take place in Sandton on Katherine Street, between Rivonia Road and West Street.

* Between September and October, South Africa celebrates Pride Month, as the first Pride in Africa was in Johannesburg on October 13, 1990, led by two prominent activists. One of them, the late Simon Nkoli, and the other a woman named Dr. Beverley Ditsie.
