New maternity ward for Midvaal Private Hospital
The unit features nine spacious beds, larger rooms, and a modern delivery room, all aimed at enhancing the experience for both mothers and their families.
VEREENIGING – Midvaal Private Hospital now boasts a brand new, state-of-the-art Maternity Ward, designed to offer expecting mothers a more private, comfortable, and secure environment.
Located on the second floor of the hospital, opposite Ward 8, the new unit features nine spacious beds, larger rooms, and a modern delivery room, all aimed at enhancing the experience for both mothers and their families.
The creation of the maternity ward follows numerous requests from new mothers seeking more privacy during their stay.
Previously, mothers had to share rooms with other patients, which many found uncomfortable.
According to André Joubert, the hospital’s general manager, the new ward addresses this concern by offering more single rooms, ensuring a more personal and peaceful experience.

“The ward is larger, more modern, and located in a quieter part of the hospital, away from the main corridor. This creates a calmer, more serene environment for both mothers and their visitors,” said Joubert.
The decision to convert one of the smaller medical wards into the maternity unit took around eight weeks of alterations, with approval from the Department of Health extending the process slightly.
The result is a ward equipped with the latest safety features to protect both mothers and their newborns, including 24-hour security and soon-to-be-installed access control for visitors.
Joubert emphasised that Midvaal Private Hospital is committed to providing top-tier care without the need for families to travel to Johannesburg or Pretoria.
“We have some of the best doctors and specialists in the Vaal, and this new unit is a testament to our ongoing commitment to serving the community,” he said.
The hospital is planning an official opening in early 2025, but the ward is already operational and ready to welcome new mothers.
