R60 million Sebokeng clinic to be handed over in December

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says the anticipated hand over date for the R60 million Zone 17 clinic is 13 December.

SEBOKENG. – The Zone 17 clinic will finally be handed over on 13 December. The announcement was made by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.

Lesufi conducted a site inspection together with Sedibeng District (SDM) Mayor Lerato Maloka and Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Mayor Sipho Radebe at the clinic on Thursday during his visit to Sedibeng on the Ntirhisano Community Outreach Program.

Speaking to the staff and the contractor during his visit, Lesufi instructed them to resolve their differences as they were hindering service delivery.

Lesufi says, “The only outstanding matter at this project is Eskom connections which will take only a week from now to complete. The clinic is complete. The anticipated hand over date is 13 Dec 2022.”

An additional budget of over R2 million was allocated to bring the project to completion.

The original date for completion of the clinic was July 2019, however, the opening was postponed to 31 May 2022.

Earlier this year, the Democratic Alliance said the delay in opening the clinic was hindering the delivery of health services.

“The current clinic that is being used is too small and cannot adequately accommodate patients. Patients are forced to queue in the sun for long hours, there are no chairs to sit on as they wait to be seen by a doctor.”

The Da further said that residents have a right to receive quality health services and it is the government’s responsibility to deliver on this.

The contractor promised Lesufi that he would complete the work in a week’s time.

Lesufi said he would be back on 13 December for an official handover.
