Missing teen’s body allegedly discovered on the riverbanks

The search for a missing 18-year-old boy came to a tragic end after his body was allegedly found along the riverbanks in Vaal Marina on Thursday, 21 September.

VAAL Marina. – The search for an 18-year-old boy who went missing after a canoe he and another friend were on capsized in Vaal Marina, came to a tragic end after a body was discovered on Thursday, 21 September.

It is reported that the teenager went missing on Sunday 03 September after he and three other friends went fishing. Cert SA reported that bystanders were able to save the other victim after the canoe overturned.

A search operation was conducted by the SAPS Water Wing, rescuers and Sedibeng K9, with emergency services on standby.

Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda says: “On Thursday, police received a call about a washed away body along the riverbanks in Vaal Marina. On arrival, police found a body fitting the description of the missing teenager.”

Funda states that an inquest case docket has been launched for further investigation.
