DA files a motion of no confidence on Jack Malindi

Jack Malindi, has occupied the mayoral seat for several months, but the DA is pressing for a resolution on the motion before the end of the current month

SASOLBURG – Last year, Metsimaholo Local Municipality mayor, Jack Malindi, successfully navigated a motion of no confidence when the applicant chose to absent themselves from the council sitting.
However, the Democratic Alliance (DA) is steadfast in its determination not to overlook or withdraw from the pursuit of his removal, having recently submitted their application for his recall. Jack Malindi, a member of the African Independent Congress (AIC), has occupied the mayoral seat for several months, but the DA is pressing for a resolution on the motion before the end of the current month. Thulani Mbana, the DA caucus leader, communicated the party’s rationale behind the motion in an interview with Ster North.
Mbana asserted: “We have filed the motion due to several issues.
One, the executive mayor has failed dismally to lead the institution. And secondly, the mayor has violated his duties
as per local government legislations, including the constitution.”
Mbana emphasised that service delivery has suffered a significant setback under Malindi’s leadership, underscoring the primary motivation for the motion.
He elaborated on the multiple reasons prompting the filing of the motion, stating:
“These are just some of the many reasons which led us to file the motion, and we expect the speaker to convene the council before the end of the month.
We are hoping that other parties will see that the current executive mayor is not capable and, therefore, support us in bringing in capable governance for the benefit of the people of Metsimaholo.”
Ster reached out to the municipal spokesman for official confirmation of the motion, but as of the time of printing, there had been no response to the media inquiry.
