Action SA embarks on oversight and recruitment drive
"This is a shame and as Action SA we will fight this so that those who are responsible for this are held accountable."
BOIPATONG.- The Action SA local and provincial leaders embarked on an oversight drive when they visited dilapidated buildings that were meant for an old age home, in Boipatong on Wednesday.
The visit was also part of the party recruitment campaign ahead of the much anticipated national elections on May 29. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Bongani Dlamini, who is the Action SA Constituency Chairperson in Emfuleni West said that the purpose of this oversight program was to highlight the failure of the current government about the old age home which was built and left unfinished near Nampak in Boipatong.
Dlamini said as a result of this, some of the senior citizens continue to be vulnerable and feel unsafe and insecure and with no one to support them. Dlamini was accompanied by the party’s local and provincial leaders such as Musa Mbewe (Provincial Chairperson of Women) and Refiloe Pule (Regional Chairperson) among others.
Dlamini told Sedibeng Ster that as Action SA they will make sure that there is accountability for what happens with this project which left this building that was meant for Boipatong senior citizens. The building started in 2015 but was left uncompleted.
“We as Action SA will follow up with relevant people to be accountable for what happened with this project. Look at what this building looks like and it is clear that it has been used for wrong things apart from its initial purpose.”
“We were told that people came here and took the material building that was intended for this building, hence this project was never completed. To make it worse, Boipatong senior citizens are struggling and have to be temporarily accommodated at a house. This was supposed to be one of the best facilities for our senior citizens but see how it looks with people coming and doing illegal activities,” said Dlamini.
Action SA visited the Kgopolang Old Age home after the oversight to interact with senior citizens.
