Kekana encouraged various stakeholders to continue collaborating with local police to combat crime effectively.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – It was a scene of glitz and glamour as men and women in blue illuminated the Emerald Conference Centre with style and pride during South African Police Service (SAPS) Vanderbijlpark’s Excellence Awards ceremony.
Dressed in their finest evening gowns and suits, officers from various ranks and stations came together on Wednesday, March 20, to celebrate outstanding achievements within their ranks.
According to the station, these awards mark a pioneering initiative in all police stations across the region, where dedicated officers
receive recognition selected by their peers.
The event was graced by distinguished figures, including Major General Fred Kekana, West Rand District Commissioner, and Vereeniging Station Commander Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba, among many others.
Amidst the sea of blue, prominent business figures such as Thami Manzi and faithbased leaders like Moratehi Sekete attended, underscoring the importance of community support and collaboration in maintaining law and order.
Brigadier Nikiwe Sefatsa, Vanderbijlpark’s station commander, outlined the purpose of the day, stating: “We are here to celebrate excellence. We do not choose who receives these awards; it is decided by you, the officers. Your dedication makes it easier for me to lead Vanderbijlpark.”
Major General Kekana delivered a keynote address during the awards ceremony, commending Vanderbijlpark station for hosting the event first.
“We truly appreciate the commitment of commanding officers to excellence, especially where the real work occurs at the station level.
This is a commendable trend that I hope all stations in Gauteng will adopt,” he remarked.
Kekana encouraged various stakeholders to continue collaborating with local police to combat crime effectively.
“We cannot win the battle against crime alone, and it is heartening to see stakeholders working alongside us,” he emphasised.
In motivating the officers who received awards for their dedication, Kekana stressed the importance of staying determined. “You are here to serve the community. I urge you to approach each day with determination. Your police station will lead in combating crime if you maintain this dedication. Do not lose hope; continue to give your best and always maintain professionalism in your duties,” he concluded.
