SEDIBENG. – As the national elections draw closer, the New Horizon Movement (NHM) has disclosed that several political parties have approached its president, Bishop Vincent Jones, seeking support for their respective campaigns. While Jones currently serves as the Member of the Mayoral Committee of Finance in the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM), he is also a former MMC in the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).
Following his appointment to the SDM last year, NHM spokesperson, Mpho Khang, stated that Jones’ appointment followed months of extensive discussions between NHM and the ruling ANC. Khang noted that although there was no formal coalition agreement in place, both parties were committed to working together to achieve good governance, service delivery, and proper financial management.
Regarding the recent approaches from different political parties seeking support for their campaigns, Khang revealed that the NHM’s Board of Directors has resolved to maintain a non-political stance. The NHM will not endorse any political party in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
“We uphold the principles of neutrality, allowing our members and supporters the freedom to vote for the political party of their choice. This decision aligns with NHM’s core mission of operating as a nonpartisan movement, with a primary focus on enhancing local government functionality,” Khang explained.
He emphasised that their objective remains centered on fostering unity among residents and advocating for the professionalization of municipalities while combating corruption and cadre deployment.
“We extend our well wishes to all political parties participating in the 2024 election campaign and express our hope for a peaceful and constructive electoral process,” Khang concluded.
