Expo highlights importance of safety for learners

VEREENIGING – The SAPS’ provincial youth crime prevention desk, working with various stakeholders, carried out a successful Spring Day Safety Expo at Arcon Park Primary School in Vereeniging on September 2.
The event boasted various exhibitors from different sectors as well as various government departments.
Speaking to Ster North, Social Crime Warrant Officer Mabuya said the objective was to promote safety while also creating awareness about various issues faced by schools on a daily basis.
“The event was also graced by Crime Prevention Wardens and CPF patrollers who drilled for the kids. Firefighters also illustrated how they work when there are fires and how strong the water from the tank is. Ke Moja had a chance to talk to the kids about the dangers of drug and substance abuse,” Mabuya said.

Mabuya said the event was a huge success.
Junior Provincial Commissioner Mduduzi Mazibuko (15) said child trafficking is a serious issue, not only affecting the country but the whole world.
“We are here to create awareness and identify how we can work together as children, educators and parents to combat child trafficking as it endangers lives.”
Junior Deputy Commissioner for Support Services Reitumetse Ramoaladi (14) said while their mandate as junior commissioners is to create awareness and promote safety in schools, it is equally important to empower young minds by supporting dreams and goals.
“We are trying to combat crime and bad influences by having school tours where we talk to young people about different issues they come across.”
Various stakeholders in attendance also handed out information pamphlets addressing safety issues and how the tips can be implemented in order to keep children safe.
