MEYERTON – The police have recovered a cache of illegal firearms following a dramatic shootout between members of two rival security companies at the Meyerton taxi rank on Tuesday morning, 20 May.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that officers recovered 10 AK-47 rifles and nine 9mm pistols at the scene while combing the area after the incident.

Police went to the school and verified that no scholar was not injured during the shooting

In a separate report by Vaalweekblad earlier today, it was revealed that a learner from Hoërskool Dr. Malan was struck by a stray bullet, prompting concern and outrage from parents.

However, police have since disputed this claim, stating that no learner was injured. “Police went to the school and verified that no scholar was not injured during the shooting,” the statement reads, though the wording appears ambiguous.

The use of military-grade firearms such as AK-47s in a public setting has raised serious concerns about the presence and conduct of private security companies operating in the area.

The police are investigating a case of attempted murder, and the public is urged to report any information that could assist in the investigation by calling Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or submitting tip-offs anonymously via the MySAPS App.
