SEBOKENG.- The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Sedibeng conducted another high-impact, crime-combating operation with the execution of Operation Shanela, focusing on the Sebokeng policing precinct on July 31.

The operation was led by the Acting District Commissioner of Sedibeng, Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu, supported by various crime-combating stakeholders.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhane, said that the collaborative efforts of all participating units yielded significant results, culminating in the apprehension of 152 suspects for criminal offenses that included attempted murder, assault, rape, carjacking and house breaking.

Mokhachane said before the operation, detectives from across the Sedibeng District were instrumental in securing 112 of the arrests, which included suspects linked to gender-based violence-related cases.

“On the day of the operation, 40 suspects were arrested as a strong focus on visible policing was maintained, and it included an intensified deployment to enforce liquor compliance regulations, trace wanted suspects, and execute law enforcement patrols in known hotspots. Whereby a strategic roadblock was placed in Moshoeshoe Street, Sebokeng, reinforcing operational teams deployed across Sedibeng, which resulted in
the arrest of undocumented foreign nationals, who are currently undergoing processing for court proceedings and deportation.”

The Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu, extended his appreciation to all involved stakeholders and SAPS members for their professionalism and unwavering commitment to restoring safety and upholding the rule of law across the Sedibeng District.
