House robberies are on the rise in Evaton

Avoid posting travel or personal information on social media.

EVATON.- The Evaton SAPS management is urging members of the public to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to prevent house robberies following a recent increase in such incidents in the Evaton area.

Police spokesperson, Constable Thulisile Msibi, said that house robberies are a serious and traumatic crime that violates the safety and sanctity of people’s homes.

“Criminals often target residences based on perceived vulnerability, patterns of movement, and lack of security.”

Modus Operandi:

In most cases, it indicates that perpetrators often:

  • Strike during early mornings or evenings when residents are arriving or leaving their homes.
  • Pose as service providers or delivery personnel to gain access.
  • Use inside information or observe routines before executing their crimes.
  • Enter through unlocked doors, windows, or by disabling the locks systems.

Safety Tips for Residents:

EVATON SAPS urges the public to consider the following precautions:

  • Ensure all doors and windows are secured, especially before sleeping or leaving the house.
  • Install alarm systems, security cameras, and proper outdoor lighting.
  • Vary your routine – avoid predictable patterns that criminals can exploit.
  • Do not open the door for strangers or service providers without verification.
  • Join or start a neighborhood watch group and report suspicious behavior immediately.
  • Avoid posting travel or personal information on social media.
  • Ensure domestic workers and children are educated about safety practices.

” SAPS continues to work closely with Community Policing Forums (CPF), private security companies, and other stakeholders to prevent and respond to house robberies. We urge community members to report suspicious behavior or information that could assist investigations by calling the Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111 or using the MySAPS App. All information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.”
