Copper rods valued at R3m recovered

SEDIBENG. – In a recent joint operation involving members of SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens (Southern Infrastructure Task Team), Midvaal Peace Officers, Carbine Tactical, Expol Tactical, AfriGuard Tactical, Transnet, and Eskom, law enforcement responded to information about a property where five male suspects were found cutting copper rods.

The five suspects were arrested for possession of stolen infrastructure, damage to essential infrastructure, and operating a scrap yard without a license. During the operation, officers recovered copper rods valued at R3m, aluminum cable weighing 50kg, melting ovens, and an electronic scale.

Meanwhile, during routine monitoring and track-and-trace operations in the Meyerton area, members of SAPS together with the Gauteng Traffic Wardens Southern Corridor Essential Infrastructure Task Team received a lookout notification from AfroGuard regarding a vehicle reportedly linked to an armed robbery and murder case under investigation in Alexandra.

The vehicle was traced, and the owner, who was inside at the time, was informed that the vehicle had been implicated in a criminal matter. Further investigations are underway.
