Police seek information after fatal shooting in Henley-on-Klip
Police are hunting three suspects after a deadly railway-line robbery.
MEYERTON – The police are appealing to the public for information following the fatal shooting of a man during a robbery at the Henley-on-Klip railway line.
According to police spokesperson Const. Nompumelelo Zazini, the incident took place on Sunday morning. A complaint was received at Kopanong Hospital, where the body of 36-year-old Simphiwe Xaba had been brought in with multiple gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigation established that the shooting occurred at the railway line where people cross from Highbury to Henley. “Four empty cartridges and blood were found on the scene. Two witnesses reported seeing three unknown African males robbing people crossing the railway line at night,” said Zazini.
The witnesses told police the robbers attempted to take their belongings but they had nothing of value. Xaba reportedly tried to fight back and was shot about five times before being rushed to hospital, where he died.
Police are urging anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward. All information will be treated in strict confidence.
