ELM’s subcontracted official arrested for involvement in an illegal electricity connection
A subcontracted official has been arrested for unlawful electricity connections in Emfuleni.
SEDIBENG.- A subcontracted official linked to Ntiyiso Consulting was recently arrested for involvement in an illegal electricity connection to one of Emfuleni Local Municipality’s (ELM) clients.
The ELM, in partnership with Ntiyiso Consulting Group, has confirmed this and said that the matter was reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS), and decisive legal action was taken.
The suspect has already appeared before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court and is currently remanded in custody without bail.
“This incident is a direct violation of the Credit Control Policy in the municipality, which governs the fair and lawful provision of municipal services. Illegal connections not only compromise service delivery but also severely impact the Municipality’s revenue collection funds that are vital for maintaining infrastructure and ensuring quality services to our residents,” said Hassan Mako, MMC for Finance and Revenue.
Mako further said that illegal electricity connections remain a persistent national challenge, undermining both economic stability
and the integrity of public service systems. ELM and Ntiyiso Consulting Group remain united in their commitment to eradicating such illicit practices and upholding accountability at all levels of service delivery.
“We call on the residents of Emfuleni to take an active role in protecting public resources by reporting any known cases of illegal connections. Our by-law enforcement teams will continue to act firmly against both residents and employees found guilty of engaging in unlawful activities. Offenders will face arrest and heavy fines,” Mako concluded.
