Nkomo-Ralehoko visits local hospitals
The upgraded kitchen will allow the hospital to prepare meals more efficiently and safely.
SEDIBENG.– Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu NkomoRalehoko visited Kopanong Hospital in Vereeniging on November 18.
She was at the hospital to receive a generous donation from Sedgars.
The donation includes four stretchers, 20 beds, six weight-and-height scales, 10 wheelchairs, and both threefold and four-fold mobile screens.
The Gauteng Department of Health (GDH) said this forms part of her ongoing service de-livery oversight visits to check on the facelift work across health facilities to improve patient care.
From Kopanong Hospital, the MEC moved to Sebokeng Hospital to see several upgrades aimed at improving patient care.
She first visited the newly opened Mother Lodger Facility, launched on November 17.
This facility was created in collaboration with the Dietetic and Paediatric Units and generously supported by Sedgars.
“The facility provides on-site accommodation for mothers and caregivers whose children are admitted, helping to reduce emotional, transport, and financial challenges,” GDH said.
The MEC also visited the Mental Health Ward, which is being extended to accommodate the growing number of patients. This expansion is part of ongoing service delivery improvements at health facilities across the province, ensuring better care for all patients.
Finally, she toured the hospital kitchen, which has been renovated to improve service delivery.
Sedibeng Ster recently reported on allegations that the hospital was feeding patients rotten food made from rotten ingredients, but the GDH disputed this.
It is said that the upgraded kitchen will allow the hospital to prepare meals more efficiently and safely, ensuring patients receive nutritious meals on time and supporting better overall care.
Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Mayor, Sipho Radebe said, “People of Emfuleni Local Municipality feel very motivated by the ongoing service delivery oversight visits and government partnerships between the health department to improve patient care. All the best to hardworking Sedibeng District Health Services.”
On November 19, the MEC had a one-on-one session with patients at Kopanong Hospital as part of the MEC’s Desk.
“The MEC’s Desk provides a real-time communication channel between patients and the MEC, allowing them to share their experiences and raise service delivery concerns directly. This platform also demonstrates leadership accountability and responsiveness, reinforcing the department’s commitment to improving patient care.”
